Tune Audit

Tune audit

A second opinion on somebody else's work. We datalog the vehicle and tell you plainly whether the calibration is safe and whether it is making what it should.

A lot of vehicles arrive here already built and already tuned, and the owner has no way of knowing whether the calibration they paid for is any good. It might be excellent. It might be a file copied off a similar car with the timing left where it will eventually cost you an engine. From the driver's seat those two feel identical until the day they do not.

An audit answers the question with data. We datalog the vehicle through the range it actually gets driven in, look at knock activity, air/fuel ratio, fuel trims, timing and temperatures under load, and compare what is happening to what should be happening for that combination. You get a straight answer: it is safe and making what it should, it is safe but leaving power on the table, or it needs to be corrected before you drive it hard again.

There is no obligation attached. If the tune is good, we will tell you it is good and you have your peace of mind. If it is not, you will know exactly what is wrong and what it would take to fix.

Questions

Tune Audit FAQs

Why would I need a tune audit?

Because there is no way to tell a careful calibration from a dangerous one by driving the car. Both feel strong. The difference shows up in the data — and, eventually, in the engine. If you bought the vehicle already modified, or had it tuned somewhere you are no longer confident in, an audit is cheap certainty.

What if you find the tune is fine?

Then we tell you it is fine and you drive away knowing. We are not looking for an excuse to re-tune your vehicle. A clean audit is a perfectly good outcome and it happens regularly.

Can you audit a tune done by another shop?

Yes, that is the entire point of the service. We are looking at the data, not at who wrote the file. What we report is what the engine is doing.

Can an audit be done remotely?

Yes. If you can record a usable datalog, we can review it from anywhere in the world and tell you what it shows. For anything marginal we would rather have the vehicle here under measured load, and we will say so.
